the do’s & dont’s
FOR VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
DO’S
● Regular Washing: Wash your vehicle regularly with a gentle automotive shampoo and soft microfiber mitt to remove dirt, dust, and other contaminants.
● Use Recommended Products: Utilize automotive-specific cleaners and protectants recommended by your detailing professional to maintain the integrity of the protective coatings applied during the detailing process.
● Microfiber Towels: Use clean, soft microfiber towels for drying and wiping surfaces to prevent scratching or marring the paint or interior surfaces.
● Interior Vacuuming: Vacuum the interior regularly to remove dirt, crumbs, and debris that can accumulate over time. Pay special attention to crevices and seams where dirt tends to accumulate.
● Apply Protection: Use a boost spray such as GLB Slick on exterior surfaces after cleaning. This includes paint, rims and plastics to layer hydrophobic and contaminate repelling protection to keep your vehicle looking better for longer.
● Interior Cleaning: Use gentle interior cleaners to wipe dirt and dust off of your interior surfaces before protecting them.
● Interior Protection: Use UV protectants on interior surfaces to prevent fading and cracking caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight. Interior Detail spray is great for plastics, leather and vinyl. Don’t forget to condition leather a few times per year.
● Spills and Stains: Clean up spills and stains promptly using appropriate cleaners recommended for your vehicle’s interior surfaces to prevent permanent damage.
● Proper Storage: Park your vehicle in a covered area or garage whenever possible to protect it from environmental elements such as UV rays, bird droppings, and tree sap.
● Wheel Cleaning: Clean wheels and tires regularly using non-acidic wheel cleaners to remove brake dust and road grime, preventing corrosion and maintaining their appearance.
● Inspect Regularly: Regularly inspect your vehicle for any signs of damage or wear, such as paint chips, scratches, or interior upholstery issues, and address them promptly to prevent further damage.
Ask your detailer to help you create a regular maintenance plan for you and your vehicle.
DONT’S
● Automatic Car Washes: Avoid using automatic car washes with harsh brushes or abrasive materials that can scratch or damage your vehicle’s paint and protective coatings.
● Abrasive Materials: Do not use abrasive materials such as rough sponges, brushes, or towels on your vehicle’s exterior or interior surfaces, as they can cause scratches and swirl marks.
● Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals or household cleaners on your vehicle’s interior surfaces, as they can damage or degrade the materials and protective coatings applied during detailing.
● Neglecting Maintenance: Neglecting regular maintenance, such as washing, waxing, and interior cleaning, can lead to the buildup of dirt, grime, and contaminants that can damage your vehicle’s appearance and resale value.
● Leaving Spills: Do not leave spills or stains unattended on your vehicle’s interior surfaces, as they can become more difficult to clean over time and may cause permanent damage.
● Excessive Sun Exposure: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight by parking your vehicle in shaded areas or using sunshades to protect interior surfaces from UV damage and fading.
● Using Dirty Towels: Do not use dirty or contaminated towels for cleaning or drying your vehicle, as they can introduce scratches and swirl marks to the paint and interior surfaces.
● Skipping Protective Coatings: Skipping the reapplication of protective coatings such as wax or sealant can leave your vehicle vulnerable to environmental damage, diminishing its appearance and protection over time.
● Neglecting Wheels and Tires: Neglecting to clean and protect wheels and tires can lead to corrosion, brake dust buildup, and premature wear, impacting both appearance and performance.
● Ignoring Signs of Damage: Ignoring signs of damage or wear on your vehicle, such as rust spots, paint chips, or interior tears, can lead to more extensive and costly repairs down the line.
